Do I need a caterer for my dinner party?

When planning a dinner party (or any other small, informal party) you may ask yourself whether you need a professional caterer. Your biggest objection is probably the cost. Or if you’re a good cook, you probably want to share your talents with friends.

When making your decision, consider the opportunity cost of hiring a professional vs. preparing and serving the meal yourself.

You could probably cook all the food yourself (or enlist family) but is that the best use of your time? Will doing so keep you up late the night before the event cooking and preparing? Stress you out hours before the event while you put the finishing touches on the meal? And will it prevent you from enjoying the actual event because you’re running around dealing with the setup, service and clean up?

If the answer to any of these are “yes” it may be a better use of your time (and your mental health) to enlist the help of a professional caterer.

As we’ve mentioned before, catering can range from food delivery/pick up only to menu/linen/servers/etc. The type of caterer you hire will depend on your budget and how much work you want to do in pulling off the party. Trust us, the money will be well spent.

Happy planning.
